The displacing pumping action activated by changing the volume of a given space causes the fluid to be moved physically. This can be achieved using a piston and cylinder arrangement with a reciprocating motion or a rotating unit using vanes or screws.

The diagram shown below represents a reciprocating pump with positive displacement to demonstrate its operating principle. It’s a double acting pump, meaning that fluid is admitted from either side of the piston for being drawn and discharged alternatively. When the piston moves up, suction is caused beneath it and the liquid gets drawn in while the valve arrangement ensures that the discharge valve doesn’t open during the process. When the piston moves down, the suction and discharge operations take place on the opposite sides.

Air Vessel

An air vessel is generally provided in the discharge pipeline to reduce pressure variations during discharge. With the rising discharge pressure air in the vessel is compressed and it expands when the pressure falls. Therefore, energy at peak pressure is stored in air and sent back to the system with the falling pressure. reciprocating boiler feed pumps are not provided with air vessels as they could let in the air in the de-aerated water.

The Operation

The suction and discharge valves must be left open while starting the pump.  Ensure that none of the valves in the discharge is open; else the relief valve could lift or damage the pump on its starting. Though the pump is self priming, wherever possible it should be filled with liquid before starting to minimize wear and risk of seizure. An electrically driven pump runs erratically for a short while till it draws liquid. A pump working on steam would need the normal draining and warming before the steam gets admitted gradually.

Why Is Relief Valve Here?

The relief valve, provided between the pump suction and discharge chamber to safeguard the pump, ought to be operated with the valve of the discharge line kept closed.

As it’s the moving components that need maintenance, they need to be inspected during overhaul. The piston of the pump and its rings as well the cylinder should be thoroughly checked. Ridges are formed at the ends of the travel path of piston and these should necessarily be removed. You may also need to ground or resurface the discharge or suction valves.

Piston pumps are valuable when you need to handle high pressure functioning. They find wide industrial applications and are essentially needed for transmission of fluids or gases under pressure. Their design also prompts their application in labs and plants handling continuous flow of chemicals. Their power consumption is low and their design is smooth and round, making them portable and adaptable for various applications.

Employing the latest technology, they are made to remain functional for long and ensure an almost lifetime warranty of service. Their latest designs incorporate circuit controls to accurately regulate pressure flow. As far as safety goes, piston pumps ensure maximum safety.

The design of a piston pump gives it distinct priming characteristics. Their rugged body of cast iron allows them to function without causing any noise pollution. Principally, there are two kinds of piston pumps. One type is meant for handling fluids of varying characteristics and is aptly called as hydraulic pumps, whereas the other type meant for handling gases and air is known as pneumatic pumps. Integral with handle, pump releases oil under pressure and as pressure is removed from the handle; the piston comes back to its normal position, causing a reduction of pressure in lubrication line. They have excellent features with a remarkable capacity for speedily completing the job.

With the diverse range of pumps available, Tri-Plex Plunger pumps are the best to use. They are designed to cater to the requirements of different commercial and industrial applications. Their design offers outstanding flexibility and efficient functioning making them ideal for a variety of applications.

Tri-Plex Plunger need low maintenance and can resist shocks. Pressure Washer Pumps find wide industrial and commercial uses for cleaning applications. As their maintenance expense is very low and they last long, they prove to be most economical for removing mud, grim and dirt from objects.

Another variety of pumps is known as car wash pumps. These reasonably priced piston pumps employed for washing of cars are durable. These have especially designed seals and massive connecting rods. These are compact and efficient pumps and thus save energy. These are also piston pumps basically with excellent designs. Because of the modern technology employed for manufacturing pressure washer pumps, they deliver outstanding results.

Eaton will be an ideal choice, should you be looking for a medium industrial open circuit pump. Fuel power systems need a large range of fuels for their optimum operation and Eaton offers many pump options to fit this requirement. The Vickers brand also has a variety of open circuit products that give viable displacement solutions, which are often needed by industrial users.

Mobile Piston Open Circuit Applications

Though a hydraulic circuit comprises of many components, the heart of any system is its pump. The integral system provides force and motion to system components. The benefit of open circuit piston pumps is the flexibility they offer. This flexibility allows utilizing a large range of fluids in the many different hydraulic systems. Another benefit of these pumps is that they help saving energy even when working at high pressures.

These Eaton pumps are classified in three different models. One model exactly covers the PVM, PVH, PVE and the PVM pumps. These are exclusively based on the Vickers TM, which has since long been for reliability. These are widely patronized by the automotive, construction and agricultural sector. Moreover, the medium duty pumps, built on the quality of the Cessna also provide reliability of pressure in flow pump systems. The new Eaton 420 has been deigned with the purpose of giving customers an energy efficient high pressure and its performance surpasses all pumps that were ever made in the past.

The Piston Closed Circuit Industrial Application

Hydokraft manufactures the most dependable high-pressure closed circuit piston pump for industrial applications. These are reliable and last a long time because of cradle-type swash plate design of the axle piston pump. You can also solve your problem of multiple pressure pumps for industrial application by installing Eaton’s through drive design pumps. These come with built-in design of integrated valves and filters making it feasible to have close circuit systems in one simple package.

The Mobile Piston Closed Circuit Application

If your system requirements are medium pressure and power, Eaton has a wide choice on offer for closed circuit piston pumps. Eaton is a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty hydrostatic piston or related products. This product range includes the Series 1, Series 2 and the Bent-Axis systems. These models come with pump-mounted controllers. These are electronic controllers, available in two designs. One is the EP design, which is a simple proportional displacement system. The other is a more advanced system called CAN. It has a multiplex control that conveys the requirements of higher pressure and displacement to the pump.

There is a large variety of high-pressure pumps available. These are suitably designed to meet the requirements of different industrial applications and are used worldwide. Suitably designed pumps can be used at outdoor sites too. Like any other product, their performance too depends upon the quality of materials used for manufacturing and their design.

Such pumps are available in different specifications and models including Piston Pumps, Pressure Washer Pumps, Plunger Pumps, Piston Pumps, Car Wash Pumps, and many more. Their designs, features, functioning and price depends on the application for which they are used.

It always helps to go for a reputed manufacturer’s product thru a reliable dealer. Don’t ever compromise on the quality and performance. It pays for itself in the long run by way of providing continued long performance without any kind of malfunctioning.

Piston pumps have a reciprocating motion that builds up pressure in the cylinder or barrel used. Its designing uses a lot of data and can be made from a number of metals like stainless steel, iron brass, bronze, and many others. The material used for making inner cylinder varies depending on its usage and can be customized to get the best of results. These are very powerful pumps with an amazing capacity to perform the desired work and functions.

Plunger pumps make another form of reciprocating pumps and are also called as pressure pumps. The primary difference between a piston and a plunger pump is the way they transfer their fluids.

Pressure washer pumps are employed for industrial cleaning applications. These are very efficient machines that eliminate using manpower and save a lot of time too. They are superb for getting rid of dirt, grit, grease etc. A variety of industries make use of these pumps for different types of cleaning. Such pumps are designed to direct a jet of water under very high pressures that instantly washes away the dirt. You also get pumps specifically designed for washing of cars. These are called Car Wash Pumps and have the facility of cleaning dirt from the areas that are otherwise difficult to reach.
